Can we get a break here soon weather-wise already! If is isn't a snow storm it's 40 mile per hour wind...Ok, so the saying "March winds blow" really DOES ring true, and the "April showers schtick" is also upon us next week I hear...RATS! At least tomorrow is supposed to be warm and less windy!
There goes my Jesus Kitty again...giving the love to the big guy!!! She is too funny. Speaking of kitties, I am really excited about the O'Grady addition to the family...cannot wait to meet him. Wonder what the name will be.....
Had a two hour+ meeting yesterday with the Brewer High School Athletic Director, also a very close friend of Ken and me...actually, he coached with Ken in Brewer back in the 80's. Anyhow, between the two of us, we decided that he would broach this subject with regard to the Freshman B-ball Coach. He was impressed with Kyle's written evaluation, and I left him mine to read at his convenience, but pretty much detailed it while I was there. I feel better, and I am trusting there will be no repercussions next year for my son.
Blood drive on Tuesday...gave up a pint of Kimmie for the cause. We had a load of 16 year olds this time around, something the nurse there said she hated as they usually don't do well. They apparently don't like the new rule that these youngsters can give with parental consent. I saw a number of them go down...pale faced, and sweating. I hope that this doesn't deter them in the future, but it probably will........We had 68 pints go out the door though, so it was a success.
Saw my first robin yesterday....hoping that means warmer weather soon. Din din time...got a greek pizza in the oven I need to check on....

You've been a great audience....enjoy Wham! haha

Could I have BEEN more uncomfortable!

So, last night, Friday, a bunch of us from the school I used to work in, along with the Sugarloafers and family go to Geaghan's for our weekly visit. Rob is there alone as Cherie is away for the weekend. He gets a call as we are deciding where to go for dinner, and says to this person on the other end of the phone that we have room for two more if this person wants to come for a beer or whatever. They arrive, friends of Rob's that we all know, and he then tells us he is staying there at Geaghan's with them...nice! It was strange, but the worst was yet to come...in walks Kyle's basketball coach and his wife, also friends of Rob's and this other couple...I think I told you about this other couple Gretch-he owns Wight's Sporting Goods-where I payed an exorbitant (sp?) amount for basketball shoes-anyhow, their kids date, so they hang out. Well, I have decided that I will meet in person with the asshole coach and the Athletic Dir. with regard to Kyle's and my evaluations. A friend suggested the meeting actually, based on the community of relationships this man has, and I don't want things going out there misconstrued by a written piece of work. I want to tell him to his face in front of someone else.
You should see what Kyle wrote! Even said he didn't mind if his Coach saw it...pretty daring young man. The irony was that a 14 year old made the statement "I know coaches get angry, but really, it's only freshman basketball!" I was floored! Talk about "out of the mouths of babes"....Wow. So I was squirming to get the heck out of Geaghan's anyhow, but this guy doesn't even have a clue why yet. Was weird anyhow.....

Glad for another weekend...Feb. vacation to April vacation is the longest stretch for us...no "special" days off in March, so it makes for excellent learning experiences for the students, but it is a looooooooong stretch. We have a blood drive at school on Tuesday, in my Kymnasium, so no classes for me (a very long day that way) in P.E. I usually give every time they are there. Will have to ask the blood ladies if they have heard of my infamous Super Sib #1 The ARC Girl! haha

A little nervous about the mother issue....unsettling. She did have a brain scan, right??? Hmmmm.

Ok....off to do some long awaited housework....YUCK! Enjoy the day Chicks!

Jobs and Evaluations...they go together like oil and water!

Today I finally got to have my say with regard to Kyle's basketball season and his (cough cough) Coach. I wrote a three pager on what I felt was wrong...basically that telling the kids family comes first and then penalizing a player for it by making him sit and watch the next game when his team is winning by 28 pts....that and all that yelling and negative role modelling. The guy was on a huge power trip. Kyle also got to write an evaluation...he pretty much echoed my sentiments. Sadly, this was not a good first experience into high school hoops.

As for the job that I would love to have, Super Sib #2 (by the way...that is YOU Deed...I really am three, but thanks for the "promotion" as #1 so profoundly tagged it), Kyle has no issues with me wanting that job and/or taking it if it was offered to me. He actually loves the attention he gets when his pals say, Your Mom is so cool...a phys ed teacher! That is nice to hear. But seriously, with all due respect, I would be an idiot NOT to take it...single Mom, gotta put him through college, and the pay raise would certainly help. His mortification would have to wait...in other words "build a bridge and get over that one" haha

Ok....din din time! Have a good evening Ladies.

All in a day's...er...work?

Ok...so my "job of a lifetime" came and went in only about 40 minutes today. The Asst. Principal asked me what it would take for me to stay in Old Town...I asked what the heck he was talking about, and he said he heard a P.E. job at Brewer H.S. was opening up for next year. Wow...the wheels began turning...one mile up the road from my house, Kyle there, a LOT of people I know and like to work with, not to mention the additional income from a city that CARES about its teachers! So I email the Asst. Principal in Brewer, my former one at Old Town who I adore and we got along great....he says, "my mistake...she is not retiring afterall." DAMN! Oh well....there are two ladies there within a year or two at the most who will be done, so I can wait it out I guess.

Will that damn Ground Hog just stay in his hole next year...PLEEEEEEEEASE! I mean really! When he doesn't see his darn shadow, we get better weather....I think someone in Pennsylvania got the rules screwed up! This morning...12 short hours before the official start of Spring, it is freaking snowing here!!! All gone now, thankfully....as are the ice bergs in my driveway that I refused to shovel or clear over the weekend....STUBBORN AS THE DAY IS LONG! Mother Nature sucks in my opinion, and I can beat her at any game!!!!!!!!!!! hah! >;)

Gonna warm up these next two days...a good thing. As was the tax refund I just got yesterday...I guess I didn't calculate right, and was pleasantly surprised to see the larger check, but figured the IRS had made a mistake and I would be returning it....until I checked my accountant's forms!!! NIIIIICE! That will help pay for the ticket to St. Maarten's in February of next year!

Praying for Super Sib #1's couch,

Uh...Noah, How long can you tread water???!!!

I really think Mother Nature and Satan are in cahoots today....EVIL I tell you. I drove up to Old Town this morning...it's amazing what we women will do for a good hair cut and a highlight isn't it? Anyhow, the drive was really okay, but on the trip home I could not believe the flooding! The interstate was crazy...where you wouldn't think water would pool up, there were spots with at least 8 inches of standing water!
Before the Veterans Bridge coming into Brewer there was a spot that is lower and all the water from the super saturated snow drifts was melting and making water run everywhere and pooling up in very deep spots....Glad I had a vehicle that is higher off the road than a car! In my neighborhood the drainage was so bad it was a challenge just making it home without stalling in the standing water! Some old fart of a guy up the road from me was telling me to slow down (I was going like 15-20 mph) so he wouldn't get splashed I guess...I was like, if I slow down anymore, I am gonna be sitting in water at the end of your driveway pal! Apparently, the water was spraying out from the bottom/sides of my vehicle in such a way that it appeared I was driving too fast...I guess. The city finally sent a frontloader up to clear the sewer drains...things are flowing better now.
As for the NCAA tournament....I am having a REALLY BAD DAY today. Losing by a point or two in games where the teams should really have won. I cannot remember a year where the coaching choices were so poor...these kids bombing in 3's when they only need a point or two...Crazy! Guess I won't be winning this pool!
Made a chowder for supper...it is warming as I sip on a nice Black and Tan...had to have SOMETHING Irish today, afterall!
When I picked up the seafood, I also bought this week's Ellsworth American....Tyler O'Grady has a place of honor on my fridge now! Nice shot of him.
Stay dry...
Wish I could remember my favorite Irish "blessing"....I think it goes like this..."May those that love the Irish be blessed, and those that don't, may God break their legs, so we'll know them by their limping." hahahaha Irreverent, just like me!!!

Standardized Tests be damned!

Ok..so here is my question/issue of the week. How does a young man who scores in the 12th grade and above on a recent standardized test and has consistently made honor roll the past two quarters, now come home with a mid-quarter report of 70's in 3 of his core classes???!!!

Answer.....................LAZINESS! One word...and it is an ugly one! Just didn't do the work...Hello...Junior, this is YOUR job...to pass! Threatened him with the standard, 'you are not going to driving school til these grades are up!' line. Didn't plan to let him take it this summer anyhow, but the effect was a good one..."WHAT?" So, I am in contact with these teachers via email now and he actually is working harder..........My God, I worked my butt off in school for a lousy B+ average and this kid has a photographic memory that he has figured out he can take for granted when he wants! AAAARRRRRGGGGHHH!

Soooooooooooooo, how are things with you all???? FYI Super Sib #1, I can't blog from work either...but that is due to a filter system in the building so the kiddies don't look at porn! Alas, I do this from home...can read yours from work though, which is good.
And Super Sib #2...I feel your pain, in the words of Bill Clinton. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have a girl....I guess we all have our own set of "issues" though.

NOT happy about this weekend forecast Ladies...not happy AT ALL! It is gonna put a damper on my St. Patrick's Day Happy Hour I think....actually, I don't really have any plans yet, but 8-10 inches of new wet heavy snow and ice was really not in my plans. YUCK!

Ok...gotta go see how my NCAA picks are coming out...disappointed in GW though...picked them and they got BLOWN OUT! Booooo

Zoey has found Jesus...

FYI Super Sib #1...my cat Zoey never misses an opportunity to snuggle up with the the plastic Jesus which I plugged in to my recepticle in my dining room...I have some shots of her to send when I finally get around to developing the film and/or sending you a shot via my cell phone. It is pretty funny to watch though...Kyle will turn it on and start singing like angels in the hallelujah choir to get her genuflecting...it's a scene, Man!!!
Anyhow, she is blogging with me tonight...sitting on my lap whilst I type out the words here at my table... such a cool cat! I was thinking today how funny it was the 5 out of 6 kids have cats..Chris is the only one who has none...weird.

Kathy Crosby had a nice scathing letter to the editor this a.m. in the Bangor Daily Snooze...it was quite good actually. Just funny to see the words in "our" state when she has only been here a "relatively" short time...nonetheless, she DOES live here!!! I wonder how Stephanie is doing???

OK...so my son wanted to go "shopping" this weekend for clothes....he has only $25 dollars, mind you...so I, naturally as the frugal Mom and shopper that I am, and knowing that he has "name brand" in mind, suggest Marshall's and/or TJ's, to which he says, "the mall is closer"...ok, it ISN'T!!! But we go anyhow...and he finds NOTHING (at American Eagle)!!!! Well, he did find a nice long sleeve polo at Aeropostale for 5.99, a good deal...Then we head to Old Navy (my idea) and find a nice pair of jeans--WITHHOUT HOLES ALREADY IN THEM for 17.99, along with another nice long sleeve polo that I bought for him. Needless to say, Mom wins out again with the suggestions...he called his buddy Sheb only to find out that he SHOULD have gone to Marshalls or TJ's....hmmmmm....Not as dumb as I look afterall!!!!

So...Super Sib #2 is finally on board...FINALLY being the operating word here, but am glad we finally "coaxed" you into it...I hope your kids are as appalled as Gretchen's and mine are...makes it all the better...and more fun!!! My son is worried we will all get My Spaces now...RIGHT! I am looking forward to more Good Deeds! Ciao for Naio...gotta go watch 24...

Kym is not in the Gym (at this time anyhow)

Two Ibuprofen please......

The big annual Senior vs. Faculty basketball game was last night at the MacKenzie "KYMnasium" at Old Town High School....former home of the beloved Indians, now the home of (cough cough) The Coyotes!

We played against about 35 17 and 18 year olds...there were only 13 or so of us "old folks" so needless to say, they had the fresher legs on the court most of the game. We did, however, manage to squeek out a good 18 point victory and posted over 80 points. The Senior team featured various varsity boys and girls players along with some other good athletes from other sports at the school, and some kids who just wanted to participate for the fun of it all.

The Staff team included my teaching partner who is also the baseball coach, and never played beyond his freshman year at Bangor High, but he goes 6'2", my Dept. Head, Heather, who played and starred at OTHS in her day as well as at UMPI during her college years, a former male Old Town player who coaches our boys JV's, the girls JV coach, my current student teacher who is a female hockey player at Maine and is from Canada where they know nothing about basketball (she barely makes 5 feet too), a former male Orono player who is an Ed Tech for us, who is older than me but a pretty good shot still, and the leading all time scorer from Old Town High, Marty Clark, who is my age and still has game...BIG TIME. Marty teaches History at the school, and coaches the boys team, and continues to work out daily. He was a star in high school, and the kids all know it, so they hang off of him every chance they get...We also had some very old players...ok, by old I mean well OVER 50, as well as some young student teachers and a substitute teaching Mom...and me of course.

It was a fun time, needless to say....at one point, I was on a fast break, pulled up for a 3 pointer only to get leveled from behind while watching the ball swish right in...as I was literally crashing to the floor thinking....this is gonna hurt, I was also thinking I would be able to make this a 4 point play. WRONG! When I turn to see who it was that fouled me....it turned out to be Marty Clark!!! Did I mention that he is 6'3" and weighs over 200lbs! We laughed and I said hey I made the shot at least....to which he replied, 'Yeah, cause I helped you!!!" Got some nice memorabilia from that fall in the form of contusions in a number of spots!
So, after the game, Kyle and I go to The 99 for dinner and I can barely sit in the booth-I was beat! I wanted to lay down and eat my dinner! Needless to say, am feeling every bit the 44 years I am this morning! Got a nice compliment from the Substitute teaching Mom on our team though...she said her mother asked who #10 was and she told her I was the P.E. teacher there and her mother replied that I looked like I was 17!!! (I wish) I told her I WAS 17.........with 27 years experience!!!! She just laughed. Hard to believe that all the exercise I do on a day to day basis still doesn't cut it when you play that game against those young whipper snappers. Oh well....guess I will go for a 4 mile LIMP today instead of a run...see if I can lose some of this stiffness.
At least it's warm out! : )

Thursday Thoughts....

Is anybody else sick to DEATH of this darn weather???!!! Ok, stupid question, I know....but REALLY! So much for that ridiculous Ground Hog myth-HA!

Heard from Super Sib #2 today...she is still trying to figure this out...told her she needs to get an email account first at google...will send her that info. tomorrow I guess...We have GOT to get her on board here.

Got the big annual faculty vs. Seniors (any who want to play) fundraiser basketball game tomorrow night at 7 p.m. so will dust of the ol' basketball sneakers and lace em up! It is a riot...the whole city of Old Town comes to this thing, and of course cheers for the Seniors not us....It's a hoot though! We lost last year as the Gatorade player of the year from Maine was from Old Town High...not this year though...with any luck us OLD FOLK will prevail. Kyle loves to come and watch this and always asks me if he can play...so we all let him sit on our bench as our honorary "mascot."

Catch the O'Reilly Factor tonight...what is this world coming to? Two 6th graders having sexual intercourse in an Industiral Arts room while others watched....6TH GRADE!!! Are you kidding me???!!! Then there were the parents who "taught" their toddlers how to smoke pot...TODDLERS...AS IN 2-3 YRS OLD!!!! Come on people...get it together! And lastly, I just heard some Iraqi maniac tried to board a United Airlines flight with a magnet and wire sticking out of his backside...they kept him in a locked room BUT SENT HIS BAGS ON THE FLIGHT!!! Uh, hello....that is what the whole plan is folks....suicide bomber draws attention and sends the bag with some device on the flight...how do they miss that but tell us we can't take a freaking tube of Crest on board anymore!!! I ASK YOU....I think from now on....I will just drive, thanks!

Have a good Friday.....it is supposed to warm up to a balmy 45 degrees this weekend....don't know about you....but I am breaking out the shorts and sandals!

TEENAGERS!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAARGH

14 year old son wants to go to a concert in Portland on a Sunday night! A mom up the street whom I trust completely would be driving a few boys, so that is not the issue....not wanting to be a candidate for "Bag Mother of the Year" for 2007...I won last year by the way...I am/was very undecided...until now. Thankfully, Super Sib #1 has already helped me out by telling her 13 year old NO to a Boston concert...that of course is even worse, but nonetheless, still puts her in the running as my competition for BM of the Yr!!!
Did we EVER even go to a concert in high school....? I think my first one was in college...Earth Wind and Fire!!! ROCK ON!!! Can't even imagine asking Mom/Dad to go at that age....REALLY! I know times have changed, but PALEASE! Anyhow, after just mentioning to him that he has to serve at Evensong that day at 4:00 p.m. it is a done deal anyhow....and now he says he really isn't all that fired up to go anyhow...whew!

He is also quite dismayed at my blogging....afraid of the content I think....hee hee! Dinner awaits...no, wait....not until I COOK IT!!!!

Hello...Cyberspace calling Deed...

To her defense, my Super Sib #2 has been down south...Grand Ole Opry if you can believe that!
She said it was pretty cool there...told her she should have gone to Graceland!!!
But...she better get on it, or we will have to really stoop to new lows and let the youngest in on this..............................NAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, maybe not!

By the way...Marshalls was a disappointment today...hate that!

Life's Lessons Learned.....

...Or is that "re-learned"? Not sure if that is even a word, but Deed will correct me if I am wrong (heh heh).
Ok...so you know how when you go to a store like Hannaford and charge your item(s) and swipe your own card, and sometimes the machine seems like it didn't read your card so it asks you to do it again? Well...let me tell you, I have always been leary of this, and wondered if somehow I would be charged twice, only to find out that this has not been the case....until now!
It seems I paid for a prescription at my local Hannaford with my Mastercard one day last month (I must not have had any cash on hand or something cause I usually don't use that card much). So I pay the bill when it comes in, and being that I have not made it a habit of saving every last receipt, with the exception of my debit card ones, I had no other record of the transactions on the bill. But, I was looking at the transactions and noticed that I was charged twice at the same place on the same day, and these were the only two transactions that month. Hmmmm...so I got looking at my prescriptions and found the one I had charged, as they are dated, called Capital One, only to be put on hold for 10 minutes ("we are experiencing a large volume of calls, please stay on the line...blah blah blah") and only to be told I had to go to the place of business to address the issue.
I go to Shop n Save (still can't call them "Hannaford"...seems weird) and tell them my dilemma. We go to the customer service desk, and since no one works in that main office on weekends I am told to check back on Monday, but they make a copy of my bill to get right on it early Monday morning.
Fortunately, some nice lady called me this morning to inform me that I had, in fact, been charged twice, and that my card had been run through twice! I remembered actually doing that on that day, ironically enough. So I tell her I only signed one receipt and she tells me there were records of two there!!! INTERESTING!!! Anyhow, she gladly credited my account, and now I have a negative balance on said credit card.....HMMMM, I AM HEARING MARSHALL'S CALLING ME TO CHECK OUT THE SALES RACKS TODAY!!!

Now I know you thinking, Kimmie, you need to save your receipts every month like Dad told you...(right!), but this would not have even mattered in this case as I still would have had only one to show. So, ladies, next time you are asked to "please run your card through again" be aware of the possibilities, and check those statements!
Oh, and one other thing...at Walmart, when you write out a check for over the amount, be sure to get your money! I had some wily chick who tried to just hand me my receipt and give me the bum's rush when I had written my check for 10 bucks more....funny thing is, she still had the cash drawer open when she handed me my receipt....in other words, that 10 bucks was gonna be hers if I left! Nice world we live in!!!

Ok...I am off to shop!!! Come on Deed...get on the stick and write something....that IS your job isn't it??? hahaha

First Time Blogger...

Ok, so my Super Sib Gretchen peer pressured me into taking that quantum leap into the 21st century and setting up a blog site...not that I have much interesting to say, mind you. But, she is right about one thing....the Trifecta Sistas could do some serious damage if we set one up together! Imagine the discussions...furniture, shoes, fashion, holiday (dis)functions, not to mentions OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS!!! haha

FYI....Snow sucks! Sick of it and clearing it by myself while my son goes to his friend's house conveniently every storm. Today he got paid $20 by this boy's Dad to clear snow off cars at a car lot in Bangor...I mean really, why do it for Mom for free!!! Enterprising little shit!!! I left the back deck for him to do when he gets home though...haha!

Later Girls!!!
