Scary Stuff...

Wow, this really HAS been a week!!! Not only did Super Sib #2 share the horrible news of Jennifer's, but we had a tremendous scare while up at Sugarloaf for "Ladies Wellness" time...we tagged it that cause the actual Wellness Conference is always going on at the time we go up, and they all show up at Longfellows, the local restaurant we go to one night each year, and they can't drink or smoke or anything while they are there, so we DO!!! Well...we drink anyhow, not smoke!
Anyhow, I digress...when we got home, we were sitting around talking and such and one of the women, Judy, who just retired this spring as the Technology Educator in Milford where I used to teach, throws her hands up into the air and starts shaking and making all this noise...well, she is funny and we all thought she was contributing to the conversation that was going on, until she didn't stop. It was then that we realized something was terribly wrong. I jumped up and yelled to Rosemarie, a nurse in our group who is married to the Principal who hired me, and she and I got Judy onto the floor while she was having this horrible seizure of unknown origins. She is not epileptic. She starts getting cyanotic, and all the other women are standing there just watching and not knowing what to do, so I told someone to call 911 and Rosemarie opened her jaw which was paralyzed shut from the seizure, with her tongue blocking her breathing....we stayed on floor with her watching her struggle for breaths, and she was totally flacid everywhere. We kept looking at eachother thinking stroke, and I kept waiting for the worst, which I was sure would come and we would need to begin CPR...where is that ARC girl when you need her! Well, fortunately, that didn't happen, and Judy started to come out of it, moved her legs, squeezed my hand, and began trying to say something, which made no sense and was difficult to comprehend. But when the ambulance finally arrived, she had recovered tremendously, and could clearly say her name, but she had NO recollection of how she had gotten to the floor, or what had transpired. Everyone was quite shaken, and Rosemarie was sure she would not have survived had Judy been upstairs in bed at the time of this event, or alone at her house...she would not have been able to breathe!
Long story short, they took her to Farmington Hospital...can't believe a huge ski area has no hospital, and after multiple EKG's, blood tests, and an MRI, determined that the seizure was not of epileptic reasons, but we now believe it was brought on by alcohol withdrawal. She has been a very heavy drinker for years, and lately has appeared to be cutting down drastically. I didn't realize you could have grand mal seizures from this, but Rosemarie said it is not uncommon. Judy was also dehydrated, and had a low potassium and magnesium level....She came back the next day and other than being exhausted, was none the worse for wear. She will see a doctor here now...she has not been to the doctor by the way for over 15+ YEARS!!! They gave her some blood pressure meds as well, so hopefully, this won't scare her away from cutting back or quitting drinking totally....we are a bit skeptical as Judy is a different sort, but we will be there for her nonetheless. All in all a very scary trip this year...one we won't soon forget.

Kyle had a great time with Tyler....thank you Gretch for having him. I told Ty that we will have to come get him for a Friday to Monday weekend soon, as he filled me in on his weekly schedule
for the summer. They get along so well now....like brothers! It is really nice to see, and Kyle really does adore him and the time they share. Also thanks to Care for taking them to the skate park...she is the "bomb"!!!

Looking forward to heading to Mass. to see the Kartsteins for the 4th. Think we head out the 2nd, and will be returning the 5th, but I need to check with Sib 2 on that one. Have a relaxing weekend everyone!

FORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or should I say FIVE!!! Played in a golf tournament this morning with my friend Lynn Coutts and her brother-in-law, and mother-in-law, both of whom I have known for some time as well...had a blast!!! I putted well, but that was about it really. Still, our group had the lowest score with an alumni player in the foursome, so I did help out some I guess. It was a great day for it, except for the wind blowing in your face every time you stepped up to the ball it seemed. I ended up with four complimentary passes to Hermon Meadows as my group is all from southern Maine, and the passes were for mid-week. So, I gave one to my neighbor, and Kyle and I will enjoy the others.

Cooking up a big batch of scrabble for the girls at Sugarloaf....looking forward to seeing some of them I don't get to visit with much. Driving up with Mary Ford, a former Milford teacher who always thought Kyle looked like Christopher Robin...she is a hoot...lots of fun. She came into the store one time as I recall, back when they had a place in Castine. Mom even met her I believe.

Finally a beautiful day here....went to church this morning early as Kyle had to serve. One of the ushers actually came up to me and said, "I saw you come in...are you new here?" Uh, no...I've been here for years! Guess I should make an appearance a little more often though...or
she could just figure that I just might be a 10 oclocker and not an 8 oclocker...although now we are as Kyle is the lead acolyte for those services. Anyhow, it was weird cause I see here there all the times we have gone.

Kyle broke a string on his bass and was beside himself thinking it would never be fixed before tomorrow, and he so wants to jam with Tyler again...I assured him we could get it done tomorrow at the latest before we head to Sedgwick...fortunately, Northern Kingdom was open today and it is all set...he owes me $10 now though!!! Of course he has no cash...blew through all that birthday money already as I said!

Ok...gotta go get my run in after this chex mix is done....See y'all later.

Uh, Mother Nature.....Forget the date or what???

Jeez....it is cold outside today! I mean, I am wearing jeans and fleece top for Pete's sake...this is a weird summer so far. But, since it is still June I will wait it out.

Not sure the plans for the day here....Junior wants to go spend some more birthday money that he just got yesterday...I swear if there is a good way to teach kids about budgets I don't know it. A couple years ago Howard gave me the idea to pay him his allowance in a monthly installment, which sounded like a good idea. Of course, I made the decision to deposit a very small amount of that into his savings account, lest he spend every penny before someone's birthday or Christmas or whatever might come up. So, each month, I do just that....but birthday time comes and he gets all this cash and just BLOWS through it....it's crazy. He really does buy ok things with it, but as for the allowance....this month's was wasted on food at the Hannaford beside the high school after he took his finals....I was astonished to find he had spent $20 on chicken nuggets and steak fries and a few drinks! CRAZY!!!! So, I told him that the raise I give him every year he turns older will also now be going into his savings account....in effect giving him less to blow through on a monthly basis. If anyone has any better ideas on how to teach savings, I would like to hear them......if he could only get a job....

Went to the island again yesterday to see Dr. Gilmore...had all intentions of asking about Mom's "condition" if he would share a little insight, but forgot. Shoot! Was hopoing for a cortisone shot in my achillies tendon, but was he ever pissed when he couldn't find anyone to assist him....so I will have to go back in a week or so for that. He said that place is not running the way he and Dr. Cooper had intended, but that all health care facilities were being run bare bones these days.
Anyhow, I will try to remember to get some info. about Mumsie next trip.
The trip home was absolutely ridiculous too...took me an hour and 20 minutes just to get to Brewer...the traffic to Ellsworth was backed up beginning at Lobster place just past where the cheese house used to be....I knew I should have gone via the Bayside Road and Goosepoint...it was crazy. I thought people were trying to get ON the island, not off!!! Now I remember why I don't venture down there much in the summer.

Tomorrow, my best friend and Kyle's God Mom, Lynn, is coming up to run a benefit golf tournament for the Uof M Softball team...she will be the pitching coach this coming season as Mike and she make their transition to move back up here from Scarborough. I am soooo glad to have them back here...looking forward to spending time with them and their kids again. So I will go to Hermon Meadows tomorrow after church to perhaps do some golfing, or just ride around in a cart...we'll see. Haven't played yet this season...but will be good to see her and Mike's Mom too. His Mom is a heck of a golfer....if Kyle didn't have to serve at church tomorrow, I would have played with her foursome, and she would have put me to shame, no doubt.

Ok kids, that's about it from "Brewa"....catch y'all later.

Right in a coma....

I swear I am.....not enough rest I guess, and I feel like I am in a fog here today. But, since I can't sleep in the morning, I just get up...and then being the night owl that I am, I usually don't go to bed til late. Need to get on a regular schedule I guess...or just sleep on the deck during the day!

Just dropped a bunch of books I have already read to the Brewer library...they love it when people do that and don't care what they do with them, like sell them, or shelve them. I just said, if you all can make some money on them, go for it! We are fortunate to have a pretty nice library here, one that I really don't access enough...even has videos and dvds you can sign out!

Mmmmm....just pulled some lemon poppyseed muffins out of the oven...they smell too good to wait for breakfast to eat!!!

Heading to Sugarloaf with "the girls" for some cards, food, bitch sessions, and just general good fun. It's a good group of former teachers, along with a woman who used to cook at the Milford school...she brings homemade english muffins that are to die for!! Not to mention the jams and homemade donuts she also brings...We pretty much nosh all day long while reading, playing cards and/or cribbage, taking cat naps when necessary as we also have some fun summer drinks to go along with the food! Everyone brings their own specialties along...a yummy hot crab dip that I have got to get the recipe for once and for all, among other things!!! We found this deep water pool up the road on the Carrabassett that is great for swimming....it's really nice, and very beautiful too.

Not too much exciting here today.....the 15 year old is gonna drive me crazy though if he doesn't get one of these bus boy jobs....OR SOMETHING! I have to kick him out of the house on these beautiful days...it's crazy! He hasn't even been up the road on his new board yet....weird. Ok, I am headed out to the deck to read...the only time I get to is during the summer months it seems and I have a stack on my bedside that I MUST shorten!

The Lopper Queen Strikes Again...

Yep, I decided to "un-retire" my own set of loppers and have at my unruly hedges and such. I started by the front steps where I have a pair of bushes that have these red berries on them at a certain time of year (cannot remember when they show up for the life of me...think the Fall) and they are really nice and shiny..sort of balsam looking, but not a fir. So I trimmed them up nicely and they look much better...I think I forgot them last Summer (oops).
Then, I went out by the road and did that damn juniper that is just RUDELY unruly...I hate it! And it is "picky"...like thorns but not really, ya know. Trimmed the heck out of that sucker! Then the jack pine in the same patch of garden out there by the road.
When those were done, I dead headed one of my lilac bushes...the other two are in bloom now, so they have to wait.
Finally, I got looking at my oak tree in the front yard...a couple of branches were too low and I was always hitting them as I mowed, so down they came. My 6 foot 3 neighbor loves it when I do this cause he always wants to help, so I let him get the ones I couldn't react....then we just decided to take down a whole limb...and I mean a BIG one! Sawed it right off....of course Kyle was not amused as he had to lug it all down back for me! HA!! Finally, I look up and see this totally dead limb, but I will have to climb to get it....so I did. Climbed the tree...sawed it down, and climbed back down....I have not climbed a tree since I was a kid...It was great!!!!!!!!!!!!
WELL, don't cha know, the flowering crab was dropping its dead flowers all over my Rav, so I cut some of those limbs too as they were REALLY in the way of my lawn mowing!
Then, I mowed the lawn...with NO trees or picky thorny bushes impeding me as I went. I love my loppers! It is the absolute funnest thing to do...just cut cut cut! Let me know if you need anymore done in Sedgwick by the Sea! ; )

The boy turns 15 in a few short hours...gulp! I have yet to wrap his gifts, but found a couple of gift bags so that was good....just gonna put a bow on the skate board deck anyhow. And it is a cheese cake he wants for his cake, so I need to pick one up....I do not own a spring form pan and
I have never made a cheese cake...though I would like to someday. So, I will be up early before he is, to go get that...oops, and a card. :-o I hope he has a good day anyhow. He didn't want to really do anything special so, maybe the movies or something with his pal Sheb. We'll see....

Oh...and I am with you Gretch....going through Paris withdrawals here...where IS that girl???

Monday is OK in the Summer

Yep, Mondays in the summer never have that same dreaded feel as when there is a job to be done......Kyle had his last one of those for the summer today. He finished his finals at noon and was hitting the pavement, at the encouragement of me, looking for something part time. He had a couple aplications out there, but nothing so far has come through. This work permit deal is a real "deal breaker" it seems...as an employer, why would you want to wait for it to come through? Anyhow, he was looking for maybe a bus boy position or something. Keep your fingers crossed.

Took a trip back to Bar Harbor this morning while he was at school....the forgetful cashier at Cool As A Moose managed to keep my credit card and I didn't realize it til I was well on my way home Saturday! Now I gotta keep checking to see if there will be any odd charges for a while...maybe I should just scrap it and ask for a new number. Was NOT very COOL....even for a MOOSE!!!!
I also picked up his birthday present, and on the way out of town, I realized I had driven past the RC office.....once I hit the YMCA, I figured it was probably too late to turn back, but I wanted to go visit Sib #1....shoot! Ah well....there will be time.

What is with all this wind today....feeling a bit like Dorothy here! May have to head down to the root cellar if it keeps up....Miss Gulch already rode by on her bike!!! I will let you know if I see any of those flying monkeys though....

TTFN,
Kimmie

HAPPY FATHERS DAY BOYS!!!

I don't have anyone to wish that to anymore...except my "adopted Dad", Steve, and I will do so later, but I wanted my Brothers In Law to know that I was thinking of them too! They are two of the bestest Dads I have the priviledge of knowing and calling my "brothers"....not to mention they are truly Saints for marrying my Super Sibs...HAHAHAHA...NO, I am kidding girls! But they are good guys, wonderful providers and fathers to their children, and great Uncles to my son, which I appreciate the most! So, Happy Fathers Day Don and Howard! I hope your loving wives will pass this sentiment on for me.
Ok...enough of that...getting all choked up here. Sorry, but this day really does suck the most for me....I think it is harder than any other holiday we celebrate to be honest....sort of empty. BUT, Kyle and I did make the best of it yesterday....visited Dad and Ken, planted a nice bunch of flowers for Ken, and then skipped into town. Had the best two guys I could possibly see in NEH emerge on the sidewalk...Henri AND my childhood sweetheart Roger! It was great to see them...Rog looks great, as usual...handsome Matt Damonesque. His boy is almost 8 now...hard to believe! Henri is looking his age, but still as good looking as ever, and so sweet...he asked about everyone.

Then, we went to Bar Harbor and met Chris for lunch at Rupinuni's, where a former student of mine waited on us. I had him and his twin sister from kindergarten through 8th grade....such a nice young man! That was neat to be able to catch up...left him a hefty tip as he did a great job, and is just a good kid!

We did some shopping too...had fun browsing in the stores. Kyle is in search of a new board deck for his birthday so we went to numerous places the past few days to give me some ideas....I think he found one he liked at Cadillac Mtn. Sports in Ellsworth, so I will head back there tomorrow while he is in school and pick it up.
I can't believe he will be 15 in a few days...Wow! How did THAT happen.

Today, I am not sure what we will do....just try to enjoy the beautiful weather I guess. Have a good one everybody.

I.T. Guys are arrogant!

Ok...so I.T. stands for their personalities me thinks....They literally ARE ITS! I don't even know what the "I" stands for, but the "T" is for Tech....anyhow, these two morons who dole out our computers and "put us on their list of to do's" are useless with a capital U! Today, we had this workshop on a new computerized grading system... it will save us a couple of dollars, but the cost in headaches to learn it has already been seen! I was just getting used to the other system after two years! Anyhow, this guy from India is our instructor...and besides the fact that you can't understand his accent, why the heck don't Americans do this stuff!!! He was very nice and quite helpful though...
So, "ONE F" Jef, our Tech. guy (yes, he spells his name with one F and has long white hair in a pony, and rides a Harley to work...the Principal gave him the "One F Jef" moniker) shows up to plug the masses of computers in at every available outlet, and some he brought in with him...he was very helpful too...NOT! I ask him, did you get my emails? He says , YES. I say, well, I didn't hear back from you...and he has the audacity to say, "Well, now you're catching on!" What a frigging loser.....I wanted to see about bringing this little baby home with me for the summer (as you can see...I DID...no thanks to ONE F). Since he did not respond to my request though, I simply did an over-ride (HA...computer termed him) and went to the Asst. Prinicpal and told him I had it...he didn't care either way! I am sure ol' F Single will be calling me soon!
Doesn'tmean I will be returning it soon though...heh heh heh.

So, Gretchen really IS the evil one....what with this "Mommie-Do" list she is composing for me!!! I will come down if there is something I can help with though...not a problem. As for Audrey the Rose Bush...I wonder why she is falling over...hmmmm. I was talking about pruning the bush by the fence though......unless Steve already did that.

As for the Paris Queen....I am also getting the best of info from you Deed....don't bother to take the time to read it in the news on a daily basis. Interesting about the big bash in LV though. I bet Elvis will make an appearance!!!!

Later.....

Alice Cooper has nothing on me!

School IS out for summer...at least it is for me. My poor son is whining about those final we all had to slog through years ago and asking why I am done before HIM!!! "Ahahahaha" was all I could come up with for an answer! Pure evil....I am going to hell and I know it....but then again, it will be warm there all year, and my BEST friends will be there with me! heehee

To be truthful, I have a half day tomorrow....complete with a training session on a new computer grading system (I was just getting the hang of the old one after two years), and a barbecue of steak, chicken, or lobster....Uh, DUH....I'll have the lobster!!!!

So, nothing is in INK on my calendar....give Kimmie a call if you want me to entertain you this summer....I can still come take care of that bush at your place Sib 1....and the 4th was a blast last year Sib 2.....other than that, I am hoping to head to Florida (I know...seems silly in the summer, but there are "people" there I would like to see) sometime.

Kymnasium is closed for the summer....but I will still be blogging.

4and a half days and a "wake up call"

That's right kids, I am almost D O N E for the summer! I cannot wait...gotta get through a quiz and a final first though...whew! Seems like a longer year this year...of course those 5 snow days didn't help!!! We actually would be done today if not for those!

Speaking of weather...it is blowing a freaking gale up here in the big city of Brewer, Maine. Gonna get sucked up to Oz any minute! I thought my grill was going to blow off the deck with my tuna steak on it tonight....is there some rain coming with this wind?

Been a rough week for the Kymnasium...on many fronts. Graduation is a pain in my neck in the GYMnasium....all set up with chairs and teeheeing seniors! So, if it's raining, where do you take 30 plus Freshmen for a Physical Education class??? Uh...movie day kids!!! Thankfully, only Monday was it bad enough out there to have to resort to that...watched a show I taped for Health class on kids and obesity....from, are you ready, The Food Network!!!! hahahaha
Also, we lost a good friend this week...he was our Guidance Councelor at OTHS, but I knew him from when he held that job in Lincoln with Ken. So, for 20 plus years, this guy has been a friend to me...he lost a very quick battle to cancer (I hate that freaking disease). Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, he was not working at the time...he lost his position to budget cuts for this year....so he just retired. His wife teaches P.E. at Bangor High and won the State Diving Championships this year (she was the coach obviously)...she also has battled cancer, and so far is ok after breast cancer about 6 years ago...that was when Paul gave up the smokes...unfortunately, they caught up with him. So....going to a funeral tomorrow....I am sad...he was such a good person...infectious personality, jokester like me....I will miss him.

Alrighty then....that is about it from here....glad to see my Super Sib #2 has finally remembered us in "Blog Land" again.....Sorry to hear #1 still has no voice....hmmmmm....I KNOW I can come up with a major wise comment, but I will refrain....for now!!! hahaha

Ciao.
