Two Ibuprofen please......

The big annual Senior vs. Faculty basketball game was last night at the MacKenzie "KYMnasium" at Old Town High School....former home of the beloved Indians, now the home of (cough cough) The Coyotes!

We played against about 35 17 and 18 year olds...there were only 13 or so of us "old folks" so needless to say, they had the fresher legs on the court most of the game. We did, however, manage to squeek out a good 18 point victory and posted over 80 points. The Senior team featured various varsity boys and girls players along with some other good athletes from other sports at the school, and some kids who just wanted to participate for the fun of it all.

The Staff team included my teaching partner who is also the baseball coach, and never played beyond his freshman year at Bangor High, but he goes 6'2", my Dept. Head, Heather, who played and starred at OTHS in her day as well as at UMPI during her college years, a former male Old Town player who coaches our boys JV's, the girls JV coach, my current student teacher who is a female hockey player at Maine and is from Canada where they know nothing about basketball (she barely makes 5 feet too), a former male Orono player who is an Ed Tech for us, who is older than me but a pretty good shot still, and the leading all time scorer from Old Town High, Marty Clark, who is my age and still has game...BIG TIME. Marty teaches History at the school, and coaches the boys team, and continues to work out daily. He was a star in high school, and the kids all know it, so they hang off of him every chance they get...We also had some very old players...ok, by old I mean well OVER 50, as well as some young student teachers and a substitute teaching Mom...and me of course.

It was a fun time, needless to say....at one point, I was on a fast break, pulled up for a 3 pointer only to get leveled from behind while watching the ball swish right in...as I was literally crashing to the floor thinking....this is gonna hurt, I was also thinking I would be able to make this a 4 point play. WRONG! When I turn to see who it was that fouled me....it turned out to be Marty Clark!!! Did I mention that he is 6'3" and weighs over 200lbs! We laughed and I said hey I made the shot at least....to which he replied, 'Yeah, cause I helped you!!!" Got some nice memorabilia from that fall in the form of contusions in a number of spots!
So, after the game, Kyle and I go to The 99 for dinner and I can barely sit in the booth-I was beat! I wanted to lay down and eat my dinner! Needless to say, am feeling every bit the 44 years I am this morning! Got a nice compliment from the Substitute teaching Mom on our team though...she said her mother asked who #10 was and she told her I was the P.E. teacher there and her mother replied that I looked like I was 17!!! (I wish) I told her I WAS 17.........with 27 years experience!!!! She just laughed. Hard to believe that all the exercise I do on a day to day basis still doesn't cut it when you play that game against those young whipper snappers. Oh well....guess I will go for a 4 mile LIMP today instead of a run...see if I can lose some of this stiffness.
At least it's warm out! : )

So... wait, how's your body after crashing to the floor??? ;) You're such a buff stud, kimmie! I took the dog for a walk today and he couldn't even make a 2-miler without a few dead stops on the way home. I finally got my blog site up. Click on deedeesu to see the first installment. I have appropriately titled the blog "Good Deeds." love from me.
